Yesterday evening, the FleetMilne team were given highly exciting insight into the plan for unveiling the redevelopment of the Mailbox, ahead of its official relaunch in September.
The team at Everyman Cinema were our hosts for the evening and they displayed the service and professionalism which has made them very popular in Birmingham since the cinema opened at the back of the Mailbox in February.
David Pardoe, from the Mailbox, and Ross Fittall, from DBK, walked us through the ins and outs of the project and did an excellent job of translating what could be a very word-heavy presentation into a format which was easy to digest and held the audience’s interest from start to finish. They used impressive CGI to illustrate the new look Mailbox and left those in attendance with a real desire to find out more and see the finished article, so job well done to David and Ross.
The changes to the Mailbox were, obviously, a major focus of the presentation and everything just seems to make sense now. They are adding a roof, so that you don’t get drenched if this notoriously sunny country of ours decides to break character every now and then. A more accessible “front door” has been added to the office level, so that anyone visiting for a meeting or business reasons will find it much easier to find their way in. They’re also putting in a ramp and renumbering the floors so that you enter on level 1 (rather than level 3) and travel up to levels 2 and 3 (rather than jumping from 3 to 5 and then ending up in Narnia, as we do regularly at the moment).
They’ve also moved Harvey Nichols to the back of the mall, which has meant the store has been able to double in size, which was a nice surprise for everyone.
We were also very impressed to see David and Ross speak so confidently about everything else going on in the city. As many of you will know, we have been championing Birmingham more than ever before in recent months and it is due to things like the new Mailbox, the new New Street, Grand Central Birmingham, the Rugby World Cup, the new Resorts World etc that we are able to do so. We are forever telling people that interest in Birmingham is set to go through the roof in Q3 and Q4 of 2015 and it was really nice to see the guys supporting that information and acknowledging the positive things which are going to be bringing people to the city in the next 6 months. After all, we are all business people so why hide away from the fact there is a lot of money to be made this year? Such an exciting business opportunity should prompt businesses to put themselves in the best position to attract consumer interest as possible and it is clear that the team behind the Mailbox have considered this and acted upon it.
So, in summary, bravo to the guys at the Mailbox, it seems as though they have thought of absolutely everything and we can’t wait to see the finished result. The mall will be open to the public again in July and there will be an official relaunch in September. Watch this space.
Thank you also to CBRE who sponsored the event and made it possible for us to get such an exclusive preview, we are all very excited and July really can’t come quick enough now.
