Birmingham Coach Station moved to a brand new £15 million site in 2009, across the road from the old one in Digbeth. From Digbeth you can catch a coach to almost anywhere in the country, for a fraction of the cost of a train fare:

From Birmingham to Manchester, again from as little as £4*
From Birmingham to Liverpool from £5*

*when booked in advance and selected days.

Inside the coach station you’ll find a Starbucks and a WHSmith, with food available to buy for your journey. You’ll always find a queue of black cabs outside for when you need to head home, after your return to Birmingham.
