Smithfield may be a neighbourhood you haven’t heard about in a while, but that’s about to change. The area is undergoing massive changes, transforming into a vibrant area full of new residential, retail, leisure and cultural developments.
The regeneration is focusing on building modern and sustainable homes, and businesses, surrounded by green public spaces – giving Smithfield a distinctive sense of place and identity
It’s a hub of activity, with new and exciting developments popping up no matter which way you look. If you’re looking for “the next big thing”, you’ve found it.
The area was once the site of the Birmingham Manor House, in which the De Birmingham Family lived for centuries. The site then became home to the Smithfield markets, one of which eventually became the Bull Ring Indoor market.
This neighbourhood is still very much a “work in progress” – it doesn’t quite have a heart yet. However, we have a feeling it will be Festival Square.
The area is so well connected. A stones throw from New Street Station, a short walk to the Curzion Street terminal and neighbours with the exciting Chinatown area.
