Things to Do in Birmingham this Summer

Birmingham Light Festival returns this February, bringing light installations, performances and temporary artworks back to the city centre from 12-15 February. Following the success of its first year, the festival once again uses Birmingham’s streets, squares and public spaces as a backdrop for creative work led by local artists and organisations.
The festival is designed to be accessible, free to attend and rooted in the city itself. Installations and events will span key locations, encouraging people to explore Birmingham on foot and experience familiar places in a different way.
FleetMilne is proud to be a supporter of this year’s event. We have been based in Birmingham since 2004, specialising in residential property across the city centre. The neighbourhoods we work in every day are brought to life by exciting events like Birmingham Light Festival.
Supporting city-led cultural events reflects our belief that a successful property market depends on far more than supply and demand and the quality of life a city offers is crucial. Culture, creativity and shared experiences all contribute to that.
Our support is part of a broader commitment to Birmingham as a place where people want to live as well as commute into for work and leisure.
Arts and cultural events play an important role in the health of city centres, particularly during the quieter winter months. They increase footfall, support local businesses and help maintain a sense of momentum beyond the working day.
More importantly, they shape perception. Cities that invest in culture tend to be seen as more liveable, more attractive to talent and more resilient in the long term. That has a direct impact on residential demand, from renters choosing where to settle to buyers deciding where to invest.
From our perspective, culture is not just ‘nice to have’, but part of the infrastructure that makes city centre living appeal to renters and buyers.
For residents, festivals like this offer more than visual impact. They provide opportunities to engage with the city in a social, relaxed way and to feel connected to the places they live.
Temporary events also change how public spaces are used and understood. Streets become destinations rather than routes through. Squares become places to linger. That shift is especially important in dense urban environments.
For people considering city centre living, it reinforces the idea that Birmingham offers character and a sense of shared identity as well as convenience.
Birmingham Light Festival is delivered through collaboration between artists, educational institutions, city partners and businesses like ours. That joined-up approach reflects the kind of thinking needed to support a thriving city centre.
At FleetMilne, we care about Birmingham’s long-term success because our clients, our team and our work are part of it. Supporting initiatives that strengthen the city’s cultural life is one of the ways we contribute to that future.
As Birmingham continues to evolve, events like this help ensure the city centre remains genuinely desirable as well as extremely functional and accessible. To find out more, visit the official website or follow the Instagram page for updates!
