Birmingham has become one of only eight cities in Europe to be awarded World Craft City status for its historic Jewellery Quarter’s contributions to the jewellery industry. Around 40% of all jewellery made in the UK is made here, and it is home to Europe’s largest concentration of jewellery businesses.
The award stems from a bid that was led by the Jewellery Quarter Development Trust (JQDT) and co-applicants Birmingham City University, supported by Birmingham City Council and the Goldsmiths Company. The bid was submitted in October 2024 and was followed by a rigorous process that included a three-day visit from the international judging panel in April 2025.
Birmingham’s status opens the city up to new opportunities for international partnerships, funding and collaborative projects.
The Jewellery Quarter is a thriving neighbourhood within Birmingham city centre and has a fantastic residential property offering. Visit our Neighbourhoods page to find out more.
